I can't believe you put all these reviews out at once! It is like being given a 5 pound box of dark chocolate truffles. The first one is heart-breakingly delicious. The second is sweet. The third makes you feel you can never eat another chocolate and yet more than four pounds remain.

I only gave sufficient attention to the first review: on art and Romantic ideas. I recognize much of the current view of artists in the description you gave. I think feeling special and unique becomes very hard to separate from feeling superior and I personally would have been better served being made aware of my commonality with others than my specialness.

After that the reviews begin to spin and merge. I read Jude the Obscure this year and swore to read no more Hardy. My intention is reinforced by the sameness of the moral sentiments presented in the two books you mention.

Most people I know would agree with you. For some reason I like to wallow in Hardy novels. Grin.

He is a Romantic hardliner. Be a Romantic or prepare to meet your doom. Grin.

Glad you enjoyed them.
